What We Offer
The Stanwell Sure Start Children's Centre provides early years education and adult learning courses, as well as a range of health, family support, and employment support services. It's fun, friendly and FREE. Here is a little about some of our activities and to check days and times for all sessions, visit our What's On diary.
Stay and Play
We have various groups to suit different ages of children. Parents, grandparents and main carers can spend time with their children enjoying a variety of play activities and story time, as well as socialising with other children and parents. Children can chose to play indoors or outside. Please remember that you are responsible for your own children at all times.
Baby Cafe and Breastfeeding Support
The Cafe is run jointly by Stanwell and the Clarendon Sure Start Children's Centre in Ashford. It's a place for breastfeeding and pregnant mums to meet up in a relaxed way every Thursday lunchtime. Friendly advice from a breastfeeding counsellor and the NCT is available. It's held at the Clarendon Centre. Pop in any time during the opening hours, 12.30 - 2pm and bring your partner.
Every Child a Talker - ECaT
At the heart of everything we do is helping children develop and learn to communicate happily and confidently by the time they go to school, to make Every Child a Talker.
ECaT nurtures children's speech and language development. It's about encouraging parents to have conversations with their children from babyhood. It encourages children to become good listeners as well as talkers, to discover the pleasure of books and to develop a wide vocabulary. We also provide special speech and language sessions with a speech therapist.
Childminders' Group
Play and Learn sessions for registered childminders offer opportunities to exchange information and share good practice. A wide choice of different activities and resources provide a fresh and interesting play environment. Children have opportunities to explore and learn, while childminders can develop their teaching, observation and assessment skills. A main activity will be set up, with the plans and links to the EYFS available. Other activities and resources will be available for you and the children to select. An outreach worker will join the group for singing towards the end of the session.
Family Fun Time
A monthly Saturday morning Stay and Play session for children up to the age of eight and their families. Come and relax with your children, meet other mums, dads, grandparents and carers. If you need any help or information, the children's centre staff will be here for a chat.
Sensory Room
Our sensory room is a wonderful facility, designed for children under the age of 11 with learning difficulties or disabilities, or who are coping with stress. This beautiful, calming space includes a water bed, music, colourful bubble tubes, glitter balls, tactile panels and interactive sound and light panels to gently stimulate or completely relax.
Parenting Puzzle
A course to share experiences as parents and explore new parenting ideas in a friendly setting. Parenting Puzzle is designed to give you practical guidance and make you feel more confident as a parent, so you can get the most out of family life. Creche available if you need childcare. This course is by invitation - so contact us to find out more.
Basic Literacy Skills Courses for Adults
These courses enable parents to improve their numeracy and/or literacy skills and work towards a recognised qualification. These courses are funded and tutored by Brooklands College. This course is supported by a free crèche.
